Can I start learning straight away?

Are you at least 17 years old and have a valid UK provisional driving licence? Are you looking for driving lessons in the Bude, Launceston, Holsworthy or Camelford area? If so then you are ready to start! Dont forget, your first lesson is completely free!

The forms needed to apply for a provisional licence are available from your local post office. If you are not 17 yet, it is a good idea to apply for a provisional licence in advance of your 17th birthday.

If you hold a full UK driving licence, but have not driven for a while and have maybe lost your confidence, then don't hesitate to contact me to book a refresher course to get you back on the road!

What is the theory test like?

Before you can take your practical test you must first pass your theory test. All the help you will need with this will be provided at no extra charge. Revision resources like books and Nintendo DS theory test software are available to borrow so dont waste money on things you wont use again, borrow them from me! Check the links pages of this website to find the sites you will need to book your theory test and practical test. The theory test is made up of two parts: the multiple choice part and the hazard perception part. Both parts must be passed in the same sitting to pass the theory test. The pass mark for the multiple choice part of the theory test is 43 out of 50. The pass mark for the car hazard perception part of the theory test is 44 out of 75. Once you have passed your theory test you have 2 years to pass your practical test. Have a look at the theory test video on the videos page for an insight into what is involved in the theory test.

How many lessons will I need?

This will vary from person to person and depends on how quickly your driving skills develop. A rough guide to how many driving lessons you will need is set out by the DSA, who say on average a student requires a minimum of 45 hours of professional tuition to pass their driving tests first time round. I do not recommend anyone to go for their test until I am certain they are ready. This way you can be sure you are not wasting your money. Lessons can be an hour long, an hour and a half, 2 hours or longer. it is up to you. Intensive courses are also available, please phone me on 07791642192 for information

Can I be picked up and dropped off in different places?

Of course! Students can be picked up from work / college / home etc and be dropped off wherever is most convenient for you (within reason!) I will usually text or call at some point prior to an arranged lesson just as a reminder of the time and pick up / drop off points for the lesson. I may not always have time to do this so it is a good idea to make a note of your next lesson time and date.

What is the practical test like?

This test begins with an eyesight test. If a fail occurs at this first stage you will not be able to carry on with the rest of the test. After this you will be asked two "Show me Tell me" questions (see below). Next you will be examined on your general driving and on one reversing exercise. This could be any one of the following - reversing around a corner, turning in the road or reverse parking. You may also be asked to carry out an emergency stop exercise. There will be a period of around 10 mins where you have to drive without any help with directions, following signs or a route diagram (see video page for a detailed explanation of this). A standard driving test takes about 40 minutes. 16 or more driver faults will result in failure. However, if one serious or dangerous fault is made it will result in a test fail. If at any time your examiner considers you to be a danger to other road users your test will be stopped. The practical test will normally take place at the Launceston test centre. Have a look at the practical test video on the videos page for a more in depth look at what is involved in this test.

What are "Show me Tell Me" questions?
